Several micro-enterprises have been established to cover the daily costs of running the childrens' home and other ministry expenses.
Below: Junie now has a new oven and baking machine for his new bakery. The dining facility
at the Home has been extended to accommodate the bakery. The bread is sold at the local school and at Gilda's shop. The profits help
Junie and Lulu with their sons' education. Two of the older boys at the Home help with the evening baking.
Doesn't the bread look delicious! Thanks also to our friends (pictured) who contributed financially towards
getting the bakery up and running.
Below: The children learn how to look after the chickens and also have poultry for dinner.
Above left: Then there's the piggery. The pigs are reared on a farm. This has been a very successful fund raiser. Not only does it help support the children's home but pastors with very poor congregations have been given piglets to raise so that they can earn enough to continue in their ministry. Above right: We have a number of rice fields which are harvested to supply rice for the children and to assist us in feeding the poor.
Below left: Shepherd's Arms Foundation has been able to purchase some sewing machines (thanks to donations) to enable
the women who live in the squatter areas to learn how to sew. The women not only need to provide for their
children, but also help feed their husbands in prison. Prison supplies are
meagre! Many of the prisoners' families live in makeshift shacks outside the prison walls where there is no running water,
sanitation or space to grow vegetables. The women have to walk a long way to town to try and find work.
Below centre Gilda found an area at the church that she could turn into an internet cafe. This is a great way
to raise sufficient funds to cover the monthly rent. In the Philippines even if people tithe there
is usually not enough funds to pay the pastor or the rental for the church building. It's therefore
necessary to find alternative means to supplement the shortfall and/or to use this money for various
outreaches. Below right Another project Gilda has come up with recently is a Sarisari store - a small shop
that sells snacks.
